Summary:

In this 18-minute-long clip, the speaker gives us some persuasive reasons why we should take notes, and also provides us some useful tips for note-taking, and  its importance. First, 30% of the information we heard is incorrect so it is better to take notes and later ask those doubts when taking notes so that we can make sure we took the right notes. Also, the spearker suggests us where is better to sit when in a class. Second, she introduces the "L.I.S.T.E.N." skill to help listeners to take better notes. L means lead; I, ideas; S, summary; T, talk; E, end; N, notes. Each part is important and quite useful. Third, three reasons to take notes are mentioned in the clip: triggering the memory, concentrating, and being clues. However, she also announces some problems encounterd when taking notes. Also, there are some solutions. The most useful way is to ASK. But, the questions are stemmed from note-taking because when we take notes, we might miss some information. Thus, ASKING QUESTIONS is a quite important thing for note-taking. Also, in the end, she introduces two normally-used methods: Conell and Outline. Compared to Outline style, Cornell's is more systematical. However, the speakers still emphasizes that we have to develpe our own style of note-taking. The last but not least, she give a strong emphasis on edit and re-write work. By doing so, we can refresh our memory in the previous class and the content in order to re-organise the ideas and make them our own.

Reaction:

This is the first time I've taken notes when watching a clips. It is quite interesting and joyful. By doing this, I can totally concentrate myself on the lecture and the lecuturer. Though I know there are some missing points, I can catch most of the ideas that the speaker wants to convey. I really appreciate her "LISTEN" tips. It is a very useful tips for me to practice taking notes. I think it is kind of principle to obey rather than just a methoud to use. I also agree with the opinions that we should ask and organise the doubts found in the editing process. Indeed, we cannot take in all the text from a lecture. Nevertheless, we can add more information by asking question, or, just like what the speaker said in the clip, discussing with the classmates. Perhaps by doing so we will encounter someone with the same affection about the class as we do. In my opinion, this is a very recommened clip to share with everyone. If you do have problems or difficulties taking notes, try to spare couples of minutes and I think you will soon have your best way to take your OWN notes.
